While the Alton Towers started as a site holding flower shows and garden tours back in 1860, it eventually turned into a theme park starting 1980. The 910-acre property offers visitors with numerous attractions all-year round. It comes with more than 50 rides including nine roller coasters and four water rides. To date, the Alton Towers receives around 1.925 million visitors each year.
Roller coaster rides at the Alton Towers include the Galactica, Nemesis, Oblivion, Rita, Runaway Mine Train, Spinball Whizzer, The Smiler, Thirteen and the Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure. Flat rides include the Enterprise, Blade and Twirling Toadstool while water rides include the Battle Galleons, Congo River Rapids, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hex the Legend of the Towers, Duel and Nemesis. There are also numerous rides and attractions that are suitable for kids and the kids-at-heart.
The entire theme park is divided into 10 areas: Mutiny Bay, Katanga Canyon, Towers Street, Dark Forest, Forbidden Valley, X-Sector, Adventure Land, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Gloomy Wood and CBeebies Land.
